Frequently Asked Questions
What is TMK ELD?
TMK ELD is an all-in-one solution designed to manage your fleet from a single, centralized platform. It focuses on essential areas such as Driver Safety, GPS Tracking, and ELD Compliance, offering a user-friendly ELD device and app to simplify and optimize your fleet operations.
What driver status designations can ELD record?
ELDs record several key driver status designations to track duty hours accurately. The possible
designations are:
OFF: The driver is off duty and not performing any work-related activities.
SB:The driver is in the sleeper berth, resting or taking a break.
D: The driver is actively driving the vehicle.
ON: The driver is on duty but not currently driving, such as during vehicle
inspections or
while
waiting for dispatch.
Additionally, the ELD logs the driver's location (city and state)
whenever
there is a status change
Can a smartphone or other wireless device be used as an ELD?
Yes, smartphones (Android/iPhone) and other wireless devices can function as ELDs, as long as they meet the necessary technical requirements. To confirm if a specific device is compliant, you can refer to the FMCSA's list of Registered ELDs.
What is an ELD?
An ELD, or Electronic Logging Device, is a system that automatically logs a driver’s driving time and helps track hours-of-service (HOS) records. It connects to the vehicle’s engine to capture data such as engine status, vehicle movement, distance traveled, and total engine hours. ELDs allow law enforcement to review a driver’s HOS through the device’s display, a printout, or by electronically transferring the data.
When did the ELD mandate take effect?
The FMCSA's ELD mandate came into effect on December 18, 2017. By this date, all applicable drivers and carriers were required to install either an ELD or an AOBRD in their vehicles. However, as of December 16, 2019, AOBRDs were no longer permitted for compliance. Fleets still using AOBRDs are now considered non-compliant with the ELD mandate.
Is the TMK ELD system compliant with FMCSA regulations?
Yes, TMK ELD is fully compliant with FMCSA's ELD mandate. This mandate requires drivers and carriers to use an ELD, as AOBRDs have not been acceptable for compliance since December 16, 2019. TMK ELD provides a solution that meets all FMCSA requirements, ensuring your fleet remains fully compliant with the latest regulations
